Elias VII (Périgord)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Elias VII Talleyrand († after 1204) was a Count of Périgord from the House of Périgord . He was a son of Count Elias VI. and the Raymonde, a daughter of the Vice Count Raymond von Ribérac.

He was married to Margaret, a daughter of Vice Count Adémar V of Limoges , and their son was the future Count Archambaud II († 1239).

Elias succeeded his father, who probably died around 1203/04, as Count des Périgord . In May 1204 he traveled to Rouen in order to take the ligic feudal oath ( hominagium ligium ) towards King Philip II of France . The traditional feudal bond between the county of Périgord and the Duchy of Aquitaine was ended. The then Duke of Aquitaine, Johann Ohneland , only accepted this act in 1214.

When Elias died is unclear, his son first appears in a document in 1212. It is possible that his younger brother Archambaud I had initially exercised the guardianship of his son.

Individual evidence

  1. Like all the firstborn sons of the count's house since the early 12th century, Elias VII was also known under the name Talleyrand ( Talairan ), as illustrated by a deed of donation from his son from 1228/29 to the Notre-Dame Abbey of Chancelade.
