Eligius Chapel

The Eligius Chapel is a Roman Catholic chapel in Meienberg , a village belonging to the municipality of Sins in the canton of Aargau . It is located on the old road to Auw and is a listed building.

The small town of Meienberg, which was destroyed by the Confederation during the Sempach War in 1386, did not have its own church, but has always belonged to the parish of Sins. In 1553, a chapel dedicated to St. Eligius was built north of the village, which has since sunk into a village . In 1982 a renovation took place.

The small east-facing chapel has a choir closed on three sides . Above the pitched roof , an open rises roof skylights with spire . Inside there is a classical altar made of marbled and sparingly gilded wood, flanked by figures of Saints Eligius and Erasmus , which were made around 1670 and 1750 respectively. Several baroque paintings on the side walls depict the martyrdom of these saints.
