The Elisabeth-Theresien-Stiftung (colloquially also known as the Elisabeth-Theresien-Orden ) was an institution created by Empress Elisabeth Christine in 1750 under the name " Elisabeth-Theresianische Military Foundation " , which was supposed to provide for deserving officers. Empress Elisabeth Christine was born princess of Braunschweig-Wolfenbüttel .

history

With the admission to the Elisabeth-Theresien-Stiftung, twenty officers and colonels who had rendered faithful service to the House of Austria for 30 years should be rewarded. Those honored in this way are scented to wear the insignia of the Elisabeth Theresien Foundation and receive an annual pension .

Maria Theresa , the daughter of the founder, renewed the Elisabeth-Theresien-Stiftung on November 16, 1771, increased the number of members to 21 and changed the amount of pensions.

Insignia

The insignia of the Elisabeth-Theresien-Stiftung consists of a gold- framed elongated star with eight half white and half red enameled tips. In the middle is an oval central shield with a gold border. Under a golden imperial crown are the letters EC (Elisabeth Christine) and MT (Maria Theresia) next to each other . In the margin the inscription M.Theresia parentis gratiam perennem voluit as the order's motto .

Carrying method

The ribbon of the Elisabeth Theresien Foundation's insignia is black. The emblem of the Elisabeth Theresien Foundation was worn by the members with the ribbon in the buttonhole.

Others

The foundation festival of the Elisabeth-Theresien-Stiftung was set for November 19th, the day of St. Elisabeth. It was never celebrated, but a solemn mass was held in the Augustiner Hofkirche in Vienna .
