Elisabeth Baumann-Schlachter (born July 2, 1887 in Thun , Switzerland , † March 30, 1941 in Bern ) was a Swiss Christian writer .

Life

Elisabeth Baumann-Schlachter was the second daughter of Franz Eugen Schlachter , the translator of the miniature Bible and revival preacher of the Evangelical Society in Bern and Biel and the Free Evangelical Congregation in Bern. In Biel, where she grew up, she experienced a sheltered childhood together with an older sister and two younger brothers and inherited her father's talent for writing.

As a trained kindergarten teacher, she founded a private kindergarten in Bern at a young age . a. worked as governess in England and Rome . She was multilingual. At the age of 31 she married the widower Gotthilf Baumann, teacher and Dr. phil. After the marriage, she took care of his three orphaned daughters and their son, Franz Baumann. In her work Das Ehebüchlein Baumann-Schlachter deals with marriage in a poetic and pastoral way. In 1941, at the age of 54, she died, like her father, of a stomach ailment.

Baumann-Schlachter published a total of 28 writings - a marriage book, Christmas verses, children's books, stories and consolation books . She wrote some of her works in the Bernese dialect. In Wunderwege we find short stories and a short personal introduction in which she tells an incident from her sheltered childhood with her father Franz Eugen Schlachter .
