Anna Albertina Elisabeth Bergstrand-Poulsen (born November 12, 1887 in Långasjö ( Småland ), † February 19, 1955 in Charlottenlund, Gentofte ) was a Swedish artist and writer.

Life

Born in Småland as the daughter of the organist Per Magnus Bergstrand (1855–1927) and his wife Anna Hammargren (1861–1946), Elisabeth Bergstrand studied painting from 1909 to 1913 at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Stockholm . On her study trip to France , Italy and Algeria , she met the Danish sculptor Axel Poulsen . She married him on November 12, 1917 and moved with him to Copenhagen . The couple had two sons: Ivar (1918) and Hans (1920). Even after her marriage, she continued to paint and draw (portraits, country life, oil and water color paintings), weaving and embroidery, as well as sculptures on the side.

It was only late, around 1926, that she began to write, writing not only novels and short stories but also poetry. A romantic-conservative, moralizing and powerful writing style was typical of her. Several of her books have also been translated into other languages, namely Danish, Dutch, German and English.
