Elisabeth Onisseit

Elisabeth Onißeit (born September 15, 1944 in Apolda ) is a German former endurance athlete who took part in GDR, European and world championships.

Life

She grew up in Apolda and was encouraged by school and sports clubs because of her athletic strength , so that she achieved good results in the duathlon and triathlon sports at GDR championships. After the fall of the Berlin Wall , Onisseit took part in European and World Championships in endurance sports. Her greatest successes were in 2004 (14:48:25 hours, place 1421) and 2010 (14:20:33, place 1646) taking part in the Ironman Hawaii. In 2009 the city of Apolda named her the city's “ fountain master ” for one year - an honorary position that is regularly awarded to deserving Apolda residents. At this public honor she called on the people of Apolda to be active in sports.
