Elisabeth Rieken

Elisabeth Rieken (* 1965 in Gießen ) is a German linguist and professor at the Philipps University of Marburg .

Life

Rieken studied comparative linguistics at the University of Hamburg and at the Ruhr University in Bochum , there among others with Erich Neu .

In 1996 she received her doctorate in Bochum with her dissertation "Investigations into the nominal stem formation of the Hittite". Between 1996 and 2000 she worked as a research assistant at the Free University of Berlin and at times at Cornell University in New York. She qualified as a professor in 2001 with a thesis on “Conditional sentences, irrelevance conditionalies and concessive sentences in Old Irish”. From 2001 she was a lecturer at University College London and the School of Oriental and African Studies .

Since 2002 she has held a professorship in the field of comparative and general linguistics in Marburg . One of her main research interests is the Hittite language .

In 2019 Rieken was elected to the Academy of Sciences and Literature Mainz.
