Elisabeth Scheidel (born August 1, 1883 in Leimersheim , † August 17, 1987 in Bühl ) was a German educator and resistance fighter against National Socialism .

Life

Elisabeth Schiedel grew up as the daughter of a primary school teacher . During the First World War she worked as a Red Cross nurse and later in Frankfurt as head of a war kitchen . She also gave courses in home economics for young women. In October 1923 she came to the district school in Brühl, where she taught housekeeping and propriety. Scheidel also took over the management of the school, which today continues to exist as a community school under the name Elly-Heuss-Knapp-Schule .

The school, which was shaped by Christianity and religion, had problems under National Socialism. The district council of Bühl decided to let all crucifixes hang down and instead put up pictures of leaders and pictures of other Nazi figures. Scheidel bowed to pressure from the NSDAP. In addition, two new teachers were hired who belonged to the Nazi women's group. In April 1936 Seidel was then sentenced to a fine for not properly introducing the new colleagues. Finally, in August 1936, religious instruction and morning prayer were banned. Thereupon there was a massive wave of withdrawals from the school. The school was closed, which was mainly blamed on Scheidel, who did not support the new Nazi system. On March 27, 1937, an Obergau housekeeping and leadership school of the BDM was built at the same location .

Scheidel, however, applied for her retirement as early as 1939 when she was only 46 years old.
