Elisabeth von Ehrenberg lived in the second half of the 14th century as a choirwoman in the Maria Engelport monastery near Treis-Karden .

Family environment

Her family came from the Ehrenburg near Brodenbach on the Moselle and had very close relationships with the Maria Engelport monastery. Your parents cannot be determined with certainty as there are three possible families.

In 1356 Elisabeth von Ehrenberg was first mentioned as a choirwoman in Engelport together with her sister Catharina. From 1384 at the latest, she presided over the convent as prioress .

It is particularly thanks to her that in 1406 she had the Himmeroder monk Laurentius de Wede create a necrology , the Engelport Book of the Dead and Memories, which was continued until the monastery was dissolved. It contains several hundred names from six centuries and is therefore a valuable source for genealogy and regional history.
