Elisabeth von Maltitz (* 1238 or 1239; † January 25, 1333 ) was a German noblewoman from the von Maltitz family .

Life

Elisabeth is considered the daughter of Count Ulrich von Maltitz , a Meissen ministerial who lives on Lichtenstein / Sa. sat.

In 1270 she became the third wife of Heinrich the Illustrious (1218–1288), Margrave of Meissen and the Saxon Ostmark (1221–1288), Landgrave of Thuringia and Palatine of Saxony (1247–1263). From this marriage there were two children:

The Roman-German King Rudolf I of Habsburg granted the margrave a long-cherished wish on January 4, 1279 and elevated Elisabeth von Maltitz and her son Friedrich to the rank of imperial prince with a “one-time grace” : “Elisabeth, the rightful companion of your camp and Friedrich , your rightful son, both and all (possibly following) children, we speak free from any servile or service team status on the basis of our royal authority and mark them with the honor and the right of free status and free birth for all time. "

After the death of Heinrich the Illustrious in 1288, she called herself Elisabeth Margravine of Meißen . On 12 June 1288 she gave the Cistercian monastery Altzella in Nossen, Lubanycz and Goppil her jointure as Seelgerät .

Her grave is in Altzella, the burial place of the Wettins .
