The Roman Catholic Elisabethinenkirche is a baroque domed church in Linz ( Upper Austria ), the architecture and interior of which already show classical influences. It is dedicated to St. Francis of Assisi.

On April 26, 1745, Empress Maria Theresia granted permission to build a monastery of the Elisabethinen to accommodate servants who were sick and those affected by contagious diseases. Master builder Johann Matthias Krinner built the monastery between 1746 and 1749 and the church according to plans by the Viennese master builder Paul Ulrich Trientl between 1764 and 1768. The facade and the extension of the tower were not completed until 1845 for financial reasons. The church is located in the southwest corner of the monastery building.

The interior of the church is a two-sided symmetrical system around a square central room. The circular dome with a lantern and three windows arches over it. The ceiling frescoes with the apotheosis of St. Francis were created by Bartolomeo Altomonte in 1768 . Around him eight groups of Franciscan saints, some Elizabethines and many putti and angels gather . On the pendetifs that lead up to the dome, the four Latin church fathers Gregorius , Hieronymus , Augustine and Ambrosius are depicted on painted consoles.

Originally there was a picture on the high altar by the Wels painter Andreas Heindl showing the handover of the portiuncula by Mary to St. Francis. The lost picture was replaced by a baroque oil painting depicting the crucifixion from the second half of the 18th century.

In 2012 the church received four new bells.
