Elizabeth Ann Scarborough

Elizabeth Ann Scarborough (born March 23, 1947 in Kansas City (Missouri) ) is an American science fiction and fantasy writer.

Life

Elizabeth Ann Scarborough was born and raised in Kansas City, Missouri. She followed in her mother's footsteps and began training as a nurse at Bethany Hospital School of Nursing . During her senior year, she entered the U.S. Army Nurse Corps , mostly for financial reasons , which paid her for the remainder of her education. After graduation, she owed the US Army three years of active service as a nurse or medical officer. She did this in Danang in Vietnam. Her novel The Healer's War , which won the 1989 Nebula Award, is based on the experiences made there .

After the Vietnam War, she returned home, became restless, and moved to Alaska . There she studied and obtained a bachelor's degree in history. She teaches courses for aspiring writers at Penninsula Community College . She also designs pearl jewelry and sells it on her website.
