Elke Rongen (born July 6, 1970 in Heinsberg ) is a German badminton player from the BSG Aachen . She is paraplegic and starts in Parabadminton in the starting class WH1, both singles and doubles.

Life

Rongen was initially active as a show jumper . In 1996 she suffered paraplegia from a fall on the construction site of her house . During a stay in a rehab clinic, a sports therapist recommended the BSG Aachen , but it wasn't until 2004 that she followed the recommendation and has been active in parabadminton ever since .

At the Badminton World Cup for the disabled in Bangkok , Rongen was the most successful German participant. In doubles she won silver with Israeli Nina Gorodetzky and bronze in singles and mixed games. In 2013 Rongen took part in the Badminton World Championship for the disabled in Dortmund and won bronze medals in singles and doubles with Valeska Knoblauch . At the European Badminton Championships for the disabled in Beek , she won a silver medal in doubles with Valeska Knoblauch in 2016 and a bronze medal in Rodez in 2018 . Rongen is aiming to participate in the 2020 Summer Paralympics , which will feature badminton competitions for the first time.
