Valeska Knoblauch (born on September 21, 1990 in Bonn ) is a German badminton player at SC Union 08 Lüdinghausen . She is paraplegic and starts in parabadminton in the starting class WH1, both in singles, doubles and mixed.

Life

Garlic suffered paraplegia from a fall from a window at the age of 14 . Two years later, she tried on the Messes REHACARE first Parabadminton and stayed with the sport. At first she lived in Olpe and trained at RBG Dortmund , but has since moved to SC Union 08 Lüdinghausen . She studies psychology in Cologne and trains at the German Sport University Cologne .

In 2017, Knoblauch started singles at the Badminton World Cup for the disabled in Ulsan, South Korea, and reached the quarter-finals. At the European Badminton Championships for the disabled in Rodez , she won gold in the singles against the Swiss Karin Suter-Erath in 2018 . In doubles with Elke Rongen and in mixed with Young-Chin Mi , she reached third place. In August 2019, Knoblauch and her partner Young-Chin Mi won the bronze medal in mixed at the World Championships in Basel . Knoblauch is aiming to take part in the 2020 Summer Paralympics , which will feature badminton competitions for the first time.
