Young-Chin Mi (born June 6, 1979 in Dortmund ) is a German badminton player for RBG Dortmund . He is paraplegic and starts in Parabadminton in the starting class WH1, both in singles, doubles and mixed.

Life

Young-Chin Mi suffered paraplegia in a traffic accident in southern France in 2005. As a result, he had to break off his training as a physiotherapist and is aiming for the profession of social worker. Even before the accident, he was active in soccer, Hapkido , swimming and jogging. After researching the Internet, he came to the RBG Dortmund, where he has been playing parabadminton since 2008 .

In 2017, Mi started singles at the Badminton World Cup for the disabled in Ulsan, South Korea, and reached the quarter-finals. At the European Badminton Championships for the disabled in Rodez in 2018, he finished third in singles, doubles with Rick Hellmann and mixed with his partner Valeska Knoblauch . In August 2019, Mi was able to fight for the bronze medal in mixed with Vanessa Knoblauch at the World Championships in Basel . He reached the quarterfinals in singles and doubles. He is aiming to take part in the 2020 Summer Paralympics , which will feature badminton competitions for the first time.
