Ellen Dinalo Williams (born September 15, 1972 in Santa Monica , California ) is an American actress .

Career

Williams graduated from California State University at Long Beach with a bachelor's degree in theater arts.

Williams has worked as an actress in numerous theater productions in Los Angeles and Seattle . She was nominated for LA Weekly's Leading Female Performance in 2009 for her role as Ruby in Boni B. Alvarez's play Ruby, Tragically Rotund .

In Germany, Williams is known for her role as Patrice in How I Met Your Mother .

Private life

Her mother Dinalo is of Filipino, Chinese and Spanish descent; her father Williams is of English, Irish and Scottish descent. She lives openly as a lesbian.
