Ellen Mary Stawell-Brown (* 1878 , † 1958 ; married Ellen Hemsted ) was an English tennis and badminton player .

Career

Ellen Stawell-Brown won the mixed badminton competition in 1901 at the All England together with FS Collier . In tennis, she took part in the Wimbledon Championships several times in the early 20th century . She was the first woman to hit overhead in singles at Wimbledon. In 1906 she married Edmund Spencer Hemsted. Her granddaughter Jane Henman also became a successful tennis player. Great-grandson Tim Henman became even more successful .
