Ellen McLain (born December 1, 1952 in Nashville , Tennessee ) is an American actress .

Life

McLain studied music at The North Carolina School of the Arts and The New England Conservatory in Boston , where she earned a bachelor's degree and a master's degree with honors.

McLains voice is in many video games from Valve to hear. In Portal and Portal 2 , she lent her voice to the artificial intelligence of the computer GLaDOS , which tries to kill the player in the course of the game, and the small Sentry Turrets , which are a kind of small robots created by GLaDOS, to give the test subject the test chambers harder to make. In Team Fortress 2 , she is the female voice that directs various events such as B. announces the start of the game. In DotA 2 , McLain lends her voice to the characters of the Broodmother and Death Prophet .
