Ellende is a music project founded in Graz in 2011 in the ambient, atmospheric and post-black metal area. The name refers to the Middle High German word ellende or elilenti , which is interpreted as "in a foreign country" or "foreign, banished" and later developed into the word misery with increasingly negative connotations.

history

The solo project in 2011 by Lukas Gosch "LG" ( Svarta, Road King, ex-Aphotic Excess, ex-Euterpe, ex-Night Forest founded) and published in April 2012 on their own, the first EP retreat into inwardness . A short time later, Ellende signed a contract for the distribution of the 100-piece limited digipack of the same EP with the German label Naturmacht Productions. By offering performances, LG decided in summer 2012 to hire session musicians and perform live.

In spring 2013 the band signed with Talheim Records from Vienna and released their self-titled debut album Ellende the following August . As with all releases, the album cover was designed by LG itself. This was followed by some appearances in Austria , the Czech Republic , Germany and the Baltic States with Paul F. "PF" ( Norikum, Nekrodeus, ex-Rectal Rooter ) on drums , Lukas B. "LB" ( Norikum, Ziagnmölka ) and Dinko B. "DB "( Roadking, ex-Angels May Cry, ex-Psych, ex-Sidesplitting ) on guitars , Georg" Norgrim "( Seduced, Nordfrost, ex-Nightforest, ex-Menneskeeter ) on bass and Alex" VP "on violin and Dieter on the viola . Due to the effort, LG decided in mid-2013 to continue appearing without live string instruments for the time being.

The EP Weltennacht , released on vinyl in November 2014, was followed by the first 10-day European tour with the Estonian atmospheric black metal band Thou Shell of Death as well as further appearances at concerts and festivals in Europe with bands such as Altar of Plagues and Sombres Forets , and Valkyria . At the end of 2015 Sebastian "SL" ( Nekrodeus, Black Yen, ex-blasphemist ) joined them and replaced Georg "Norgrim" as the live bass player.

The fourth release and second full-length album Todbringer was released at the end of November 2016 via Talheim Records as an 18-page and round "Flower" digipack produced for the first time with a limitation of 1000 pieces, which was released at the same time as the first Ellende album a few months later was sold out. In the course of the release of Todbringer , the band played at renowned festivals such as the Ragnarök Festival and the Dark Easter Metal Meeting in Munich in 2017 and played many other concerts as part of the Trauma Tour I by Harakiri for the Sky and other events.

In spring 2018 Ellende decided to end the cooperation with Talheim Records, whereupon the contract was canceled by both sides in February and switched to AOP Records Germany.

All releases were recorded and mixed in the Audioriotrecordings Studio in Bärnbach (Austria) and mastered by the Iguana Studios in March (Germany).
