Elmer Dyer
Elmer Dyer (born August 24, 1892 in Lawrence , Kansas , † February 8, 1970 in Los Angeles , California ) was an American cameraman who specialized in aerial photography.
Life
Dyer began working as a cameraman in the early 1920s. In the late 1920s, he specialized in aerial photography. He often worked with the stunt pilot Paul Mantz. During the Second World War he worked for the First Motion Picture Unit of the US Army. In later years he founded his own library for stock footage.
Together with his colleagues James Wong Howe and Charles A. Marshall , Dyer was nominated in 1944 for the camera work on the film Into the Japanese Sun for an Oscar in the category Best Cinematography .
