Elmira Minita Gordon
Dame Elmira Minita Gordon GCMG , GCVO (born December 30, 1930 in Belize City ) was Governor General of Belize from September 21, 1981 to November 17, 1993 .
Dame Elmira Minita Gordon was the first woman in the Commonwealth to serve as governor-general. The former teacher was a commissioner in Belize City from 1970 to 1977 .
She was ennobled as the Dame Grand Cross of the Order of St. Michael and St. George (1984) and the Royal Victorian Order (1985).
