Els Pelgrom (1983)

Els Pelgrom ( pseudonym of Else Koch ) (born April 2, 1934 in Arnhem ) is a Dutch writer.

Els Pelgrom and her parents belonged to the people of Arnhem who had to resettle in the " Hongerwinter " of 1944 after the Allies' attempt to conquer Arnhem had failed. Pelgrom processed her impressions of the war, the German occupation and the persecution of the Jews in the book The Children of the Eighth Forest .

In 1994 Els Pegrom won the Theo Thijssenprijs for her complete works, the Dutch State Prize for Children's and Young People's Literature.

Els Pelgrom had two children with her first husband in the Netherlands. She wrote the youth book Die Eichelfresser about the difficult childhood of her second husband, with whom she lived in Granada, Spain, until his death in 1993 .
