Thé Tjong-Khing (born August 4, 1933 in Purworedjo , Java ) is a Dutch illustrator.

Thé Tjong-Khing was born into a large Chinese family. He attended the Seni Rupa (arts) Institute in Bandung . In 1956 he came to the Netherlands and started working as a draftsman at Toonder Studio's . With Lo Hartog van Banda he designed the comic strip Student Tijloos .

In 1970 he was asked to draw the illustrations for a children's book by Miep Diekmann . He subsequently became a freelance illustrator. He drew for works by Guus Kuijer , Els Pelgrom , Sylvia Vanden Heede and Dolf Verroen .

Thé Tjong-Khing won the Golden Brush three times : 1978 for the illustrations for Miep Diekmann's Rolle Rolle Rad ( Wiele wiele stap , 1977), 1985 for Els Pelgrom's Die Wundersame Reise der kleine Sofie ( Kleine Sofie en Lange Wapper , 1984) and 2003 for Het woordenboek van vos en haas from the "Fox and Hare" series created with Sylvia Vanden Heede.

His three hidden object books about stolen or destroyed cakes were also very successful , The cake is gone! ( Waar is de taart?, 2004), picnic with cake ( Picnick met taart , 2005) and birthday with cake ( Verjaardag met taart , 2010). The first volume was awarded the Woutertje Pieterse Prijs and the Zilveren Griffel , among others, in 2005 , the German edition was Toad of the Month and Book of the Month by the Institute for Youth Literature in June 2006 and was on the shortlist for the German Youth Literature Prize in 2007 .

In 2010 he received the Max Velthuijs Prize for his life's work .
