Miep Diekmann
Maria Hendrika Jozina "Miep" Diekmann (born January 26, 1925 in Assen , Drenthe , † July 9, 2017 in Scheveningen ) was a Dutch writer and a renowned children's book author .
Life
Miep Diekmann spent five years of her childhood in Curaçao , where her father was the commander of the military police . This stay shaped her writing. In her more than 70 children's books, the protagonist is often a lone fighter against injustice.
With the book Ik heb geen naam (German: I have no name ) she won the 1983 Janusz Korczak International Literature Prize together with the Czech poet and Holocaust survivor Dagmar Hilarová , who was imprisoned in the Theresienstadt concentration camp . This work describes the life of a girl in a concentration camp.
In September 2010 the Prague weekly “ Reflex ” revealed that most of this book was not written by Diekmann. Diekmann had apparently used Hilarová's Theresienstadt diary as a template for long periods - and not, as always claimed, only the opening chapter and Hilarová's poems. Hilarová's son spoke of a “literary theft of the century” and at the same time published the facsimile of his mother's diaries in book form.
