The Elster Group GmbH is a German manufacturer of measurement technology and other solutions for the gas, electricity and water treatment industries with headquarters in Mainz-Kastel . According to its own information, the group has more than 7,000 employees and is active in 38 countries in North and South America , Europe and Asia .
history
Elster was founded in 1848 by (Sigmar) Konrad Julius Jürgen Elster (1823-1891) in Berlin . In 1865 the company was renamed Elster Kromschröder . The plant in Mainz is built in 1876 . Gas knife factory Elster & Cie with around 500 employees in the main factory in Mainz. The co-founder and inventor, engineer Emil Haas, received a patent in 1878 for the Elster gas measuring device ( diaphragm gas meter ).
From 1985 the Elster gas measuring devices were sold by those of Ruhrgas. The gas measuring devices formed the core of the "Ruhrgas Industries" division of Ruhrgas , based in Essen , which itself arose from a long series of company mergers and acquisitions.
In September 2005 the financial investor CVC took over Ruhrgas Industries from E.ON and renamed Ruhrgas Industries to Elster Group. Elster was listed on the NYSE as an SE in October 2010 . In 2012, Elster Group was acquired by British private equity firm Melrose through a public takeover offer after Melrose acquired the 64% post-IPO shares in CVC (US $ 2.3 billion). Elster was then converted into a GmbH and the headquarters moved to the Wiesbaden district of Mainz-Kastel .
In July 2015 Elster was acquired by the Honeywell Group for US $ 5.1 billion.
Organization in Germany
Since 2013, the headquarters of Elster in Germany have been located at the joint Elster electricity and gas meter locations in Wiesbaden and the Elster Messtechnik GmbH water division in Lorsch . The business fields of Elster GmbH are the manufacture, calibration and delivery of gas and water meters.
