Elstermühle Altherzberg

The Elstermühle Altherzberg was located on the right side of the Black Elster in Altherzberg and was supplied with water by a branch of the river.

history

An exact date for the construction of the mill is not known. However, it was mentioned as early as 1474 along with a local Freihof. In 1525 the mill was acquired by the city of Herzberg . In 1537 that made clothier of the city 579 cloths in Walke the mill process. During the Thirty Years' War the mill was burned down by Swedish troops. The reconstruction took place in 1662 after 31 years. From 1719 to 1727 Thomas Schubert, 1727 to 1766 Christian Kühne and 1767 to 1768 Christoph Müller are known to be the owners.

The mill regulation of 1772 shows that the mill had, in addition to three grinding cycles, an oil mill and millet pounding on a shaft with two lugs on two drawpane wheels . Two further grinding courses with additional gear were located on a Stockpansterrad. In addition, a fulling mill and a cutting mill were operated on one rod wheel each.

Others

After a fire, the mill building was rebuilt using clinker brick at the end of the 19th century. The equipment of the mill with two turbines was also modernized. In the mid-1920s, the mill had to be stopped. The mill was sold in 1942 and the mill ditch was filled in after the Second World War . In 1963 the mill building was torn down and a butcher's shop was built in its place.
