The association parents for children e. V. was founded in 1987 in Frankfurt and is based in Berlin . The work of the association consists of two main areas. On the one hand, the association is the sponsor of a state-recognized specialist agency for international adoption . On the other hand, the association supports aid projects with the aim of preventing and / or alleviating the abandonment of children.
The association is financed exclusively from private funds and donations. Most of the founding members of the association previously worked in the adoption department of terre des hommes Germany. The association was founded after tdh's decision in 1987 to stop the adoption work. The association is a member of the Paritätischer Wohlfahrtsverband , a member of the Federal Association of Recognized Foreign Exchange Offices in Free Sponsorship. V. and also signatories of the Transparent Civil Society Initiative .
Adoption mediation
The adoption agency Eltern für Kinder e. V. is approved for international adoption as a "recognized international placement agency " (legally protected term according to § 4 AdVermiG ) . We are looking for parents for abandoned children from different countries of origin. The association is currently working with governmental and non-governmental partners in six countries of origin: Thailand , Haiti , Mongolia , Sri Lanka , Togo and Peru . Orphans or social orphans between the ages of one and about seven years of age come to mediate. Since it was founded, adoptive parents have been found in Germany for more than a thousand abandoned children.
Aid projects
The association maintains or supports aid projects in the named countries of origin, as well as in Brazil and Cambodia . Existing aid projects are partially supported, some aid projects are also run by Eltern für Kinder e. V. maintain themselves: In Sri Lanka, after the tsunami, a school was built for the children of impoverished fishing families. In Thailand, the association supports various projects together with the local partner FFAC (Friends for all Children). A children's home is currently being built in Haiti. The Lar Girassol aid project in Sao Paulo attracted particular attention when it was visited in 2007 by then Federal President Horst Köhler as part of a state visit to Brazil. All expenses of the association for forwarding donations and controlling are financed from the membership fees. The association guarantees that it will forward all incoming, earmarked donations to the respective aid project without any deduction. In most countries, the association also offers the possibility of sponsoring children. Here, too, we guarantee that the incoming sponsorship money will be passed on to the supervising institution (home, school, family, etc.).
