Ely Valley Railway

The Ely Valley Railway was a British railway company based in Glamorganshire in south Wales .

On July 13, 1857, the company received the concession to build a 2140 mm broad gauge line from Llantrisant to Penrhiwfer . There were also two connections to Gelli'r hiadd and Penygraig . In Llantrisant there was a transition to the South Wales Railway . The railway line opened on August 2, 1860 to Tonyrefail . The extension to Penygraig was put into operation on August 10, 1878 for goods traffic and on May 1, 1901 for passenger traffic. From Penygraig, the Ely and Clydach Valleys Railway later built a railway line and in Gelli'r hiadd the Ely Valley Extension Railway connected its railway line.

It was operated by the Great Western Railway . On January 1, 1861, the GWR leased the company for 999 years. On August 11, 1903, it was finally taken over by the Great Western Railway. Passenger traffic ended on June 9, 1958 and freight traffic on October 12, 1964.
