Zlatograd-Thermes border crossing
The border crossing Zlatograd-Thermes ( Bulgarian ГКПП Златоград-Термес - GKPP Zlatograd granite's Kontrolno Propuskwatelen point Zlatograd - Cross-control passage point Zlatograd also Zlatograd written; Greek Συνοριακή Διόδος Θερμών-Ζλάτογκραντ Synoriakí diodos Thermon - Zlatograd or σταθμός Ξάνθης - Ζλάτογκραντ Stathmós Xanthis - Zlatograd ), also called GKPP Slatograd-Xanthi , is located between Bulgaria and Greece . It is located in the Rhodope Mountains , near the Bulgarian village of Alamovtsi , about 10 km west of the city of Slatograd .
It is the fourth border crossing between Bulgaria and Greece and allows a more comfortable journey or alternative option between the places Plovdiv , Smoljan on the Bulgarian side and Kavala , or Xanthi on the Greek side. The border crossing was a requirement of the local societies, both sides of the border and should contribute to tourism and strengthening the local economy.
The Zlatograd-Thermes border crossing was opened on January 15, 2010 by the Bulgarian Prime Minister Borisov and the Greek Prime Minister Papandreou .
The border crossing is designed for cars and small trucks and border control is carried out by mixed groups of Greek-Bulgarian customs officers.
The border crossing shortened the route from the Danube , from central Bulgaria (Plovdiv) and from the ski areas in the Rhodope Mountains ( Pamporowo ) to Xanthi, Kavala, Drama and the Aegean Sea . The administrative district of Smoljan and the municipality of Slatograd (in the administrative district of Smoljan) will have a direct connection to the neighboring Greek regional district of Xanthi and the municipalities of Thermes and Xanthi through the border crossing .
