Elyor Majidovich Gʻaniyev ( Uzbek Eljor Majidowitsch Ganiew Элёр Мажидович Ғаниев, born January 7, 1960 ) is an Uzbek politician and currently Minister for Foreign Economic Relations, Investment and Trade.

biography

G'aniyev studied geology at the Tashkent State Technical University and graduated in 1981. He then worked in the polytechnic institute of the same institution as an engineer and deputy head of department until 1984 before he began his military service.

From 1990 to 1992 Gʻaniyev was a senior consultant in the State Committee for Foreign Economic and Trade Relations of the Republic of Uzbekistan. In the years that followed, there were short-term positions as head of department in the Ministry of Foreign Trade (1992–1993), as department head of the Institute for Strategic and Interregional Studies (1993–1994) under President Islom Karimov and as deputy foreign trade minister of Uzbekistan (1995–1997).

Gʻaniyev headed the Ministry of Foreign Trade of the Republic of Uzbekistan from 1998 to 2005. On February 4, 2005, he was appointed the new Foreign Minister, but was replaced by Vladimir Norov in July 2006 . Gʻaniyev was also deputy head of government of Uzbekistan for a time. On December 28, 2010 he was again foreign minister, but replaced by Abdulaziz Komilov in January 2012 . Since January 2012 he has been Minister for External Economic Relations, Investment and Trade.
