Emanuel Bonnici

Emanuel Bonnici (* 1929 ; † September 12, 2006 ) was a Maltese politician of the Partit Nazzjonalista (PN) who was a member of the House of Representatives between 1966 and 1992 and Minister for the tertiary sector in the first and second cabinet of Fenech Adami from 1987 to 1992 .

Life

Bonnici ran for the Partit Nazzjonalista (PN) for the first time in 1962 for a seat in the House of Representatives, but missed entry into parliament. In the following election in 1966 he was elected a member of the House of Representatives and belonged to it as a representative of the 1st electoral district from the second to the end of the sixth electoral term in 1992. In 1974 he was appointed by the then PN chairman igenorġ Borg Olivier as shadow minister for housing in his shadow cabinet and in 1976 took over the function of shadow minister for trade in the shadow cabinet Borg Oliviers. He exercised this function from 1977 to 1987 in the shadow cabinet of the new PN chairman Edward Fenech Adami .

After the victory of the Partit Nazzjonalista in the House of Representatives elections on May 9, 1987, Bonnici was appointed Minister for the Tertiary Sector (Ministru tas-Settur Terzjarju) in his first cabinet by Prime Minister Edward Fenech Adami on May 12, 1987 . From May 3, 1990 to February 27, 1992, he also held this ministerial office in the second Fenech Adami cabinet . Despite the renewed victory of the PN in the House of Representatives elections on February 22, 1992, however, he lost his parliamentary mandate and left the government.

Bonnici then became director of the Bank of Valletta . He was also involved in various organizations and was president of the National Club of Valletta , the Valletta Regatta Club , the Valletta Waterpolo Club and the Valletta Basketball Club , among others .
