Emanuela Piovano (* 1959 in Turin ) is an Italian documentary filmmaker and film director .

Life

Piovano studied dance, music and photography and graduated in literature. From 1981 to 1987 she worked for the “Archivio Nazionale Cinematografico della Resistenza” and worked on several films. She also produced Gabriella Rosaleva's Porcesso a Caterina Ross at the age of 22 . In 1984 she founded the production company "Camera Woman", with which she primarily financed documentary works (such as D'amore los sguardo , Il corpo, il gesto, le donne, il cinema or Camera oscura ). In 1989 she presented the long documentary Le rose blu , which was co-directed and addressed the situation in women's prisons in Turin. In 1998, Piovano's first feature film, Le complici , a feminist thriller, was based on the Parole incrociate format developed for RAI . The romance Amorfù followed in 2003 and Le stelle inquiete in 2011 , which tells the story of the relationship between Simone Weil and Gustave Thibon . He received an Italian Golden Globe.
