Embalse de la Concepción is a reservoir in Andalusia . The lake of the Río Verde in Istán called Embalse de la Concepción is also known as the Pantano de Río Verde . The reservoir is framed by the Sierra de las Nieves .
The dam was built from 1971 and has been part of the main water supply on the Costa del Sol since 1973 . The reservoir between Marbella and Istán provides drinking water for around 450,000 residents of the Andalusian region.
The surface of the Embalse de la Concepción is around 214 hectares with a usable water volume of 56 hectocubic meters. The highest point of the dam is at a height of 106.55 meters above sea level, the highest point of the dam is 89 meters and around 70 meters at the lowest point. Since 1995 the area has been a UNESCO biosphere reserve .
