Embudu (in Divehi: Emboodhoo ) is a small island in the Maldives on the northern edge of the South Malé Atoll . It is about 380 × 190 meters (see Google Earth) and is about twelve kilometers from Hulhule Airport. From there, the island can be reached in around 45 minutes with the traditional dhoni (Maldivian ship type) that has been converted for ferry traffic, or in 30 minutes with the local resort's speedboat.

Embudu, with its coconut palms, fine sandy beaches and the sandy soil that has been left untouched throughout, is known as the barefoot island. Completely surrounded by a lagoon with a fringing reef, the island is particularly suitable as a destination for divers. This is also helped by the fact that its east side is located in the outlet of the Embudu Channel, which is known as the shark diving site.

tourism

The Embudu Village , a resort , and the Diverland Embudu diving center are now located on the once uninhabited island .

The resort has 106 accommodations (around 220 beds), 16 of which are in water bungalows in the lagoon.

The multilingual diving school has existed since 1986. It is under Austrian-Swiss management and trains from beginners to courses for advanced divers according to international guidelines (PADI).
