The South Malé Atoll is a geographic atoll in the eastern island chain of the Maldives .
description
The atoll belongs to the eastern chain of the Maldives and belongs to the central atoll group Medhuraajjé . In the north, separated by the Vaadhoo Canal , is the North Malé Atoll with the capital Malé and the international airport . To the west is the Ari Atoll , to the south the Felidhu Atoll .
Due to its proximity to the airport, the South Malé Atoll, like the North Malé Atoll, is largely open to tourists .
The atoll itself consists of around 30 islands, three of which count as places , the majority of which are private tourist islands . There are 3577 inhabitants in the three towns (2007 census). Administratively, the atoll belongs together with the North Malé Atoll, the Gaafaru Atoll and the island of Kaashidhoo to the administrative district of Kaafu .
The total area of the South Malé Atoll is 535 km².
