The North Nilandhe Atoll , official name Nilandhé Atholhu Uthuruburi , with the Thaana short name ފ( Faafu ), is an atoll in the western island chain of the Maldives . The geographical atoll is congruent with the administrative atoll ( province ) Faafu .
geography
The North Nilandhe Atoll is located immediately north of the South Nilandhe Atoll (Dhaalu Province) and about 17 km south of the Ari Atoll . The atoll is about 115 km away from the Maldivian capital Malé .
The atoll extends from north to south over 31 km, from west to east over 23 km. The land area of 164 hectares is made up of 23 islands , of which only five are permanently inhabited. In 2006 the atoll had 3662 inhabitants.
The main island of Nilandhoo is located on the southwest rim of the reef .
