The South Maalhosmadulu Atoll is located in the western island chain of the Maldives in the Lakkadive Sea .
geography
The atoll is 30 kilometers long and up to 40 kilometers wide and is separated from the Fasdhūtherē Atoll by an approximately two kilometers wide channel in the north and from Goidu Atoll by a 13 kilometers wide channel in the south .
Of the approximately 70 islands in the atoll, eight other islands are inhabited in addition to the main island Eydhafushi : Dharavandhoo , Dhonfanu , Hithaadhoo , Kamadhoo , Kendhoo , Kihaadhoo , Maalhos and Thulhaadhoo .
In 2006 the atoll had almost 7,700 inhabitants.

The South Maalhosmadulu Atoll, together with the adjacent Fasdhūtherē Atoll to the north and the Goidu Atoll to the south, forms the Maldivian administrative atoll Maalhosmadulu Dhekunuburi with the Thaana short name ބ( Baa ).
