Emil Gies

Emil Gies (born April 26, 1872 in Frankfurt am Main , † 1937 ) was a German painter and draftsman .

Gies first attended the drawing class under Johann Heinrich Hasselhorst at the Städelsche Kunstinstitut from 1887 to 1889 and in the following years from 1889 to 1891 the painting class under Frank Kirchbach . In Paris he then completed his studies from 1891 to 1893 in the private school of Luc-Olivier Merson . After the death of Wilhelm Amandus Beer in January 1907, Gies took over the leadership of the master class for figurative painting, which had previously been temporarily directed by Andreas Egersdörfer , the teacher of the master's studio for landscape painting.
