Emil Herzfelder (born December 14, 1879 in Nuremberg , † after 1945) was a German general director.

Life

Herzfelder completed a degree in law and political science at the universities of Munich, Berlin and Würzburg. He received his PhD on 20 December 1903 of the University of Wuerzburg on the history of credit insurance to Dr. jur. et. rer. pole. He worked as a lawyer at Allianz Insurance in Munich and was promoted to board member of Globus Insurance in Hamburg.

On October 7, 1917, he and Wilhelm Kißkalt founded the Hermes Kreditversicherungsbank Aktiengesellschaft in Berlin , which is considered the first German credit insurance company , and he became its director. Herzfelder published the theoretical basis for this type of insurance as early as 1904.

Heart Fields stood from 1932 to 1935 the Victoria insurance as general manager before. After the seizure of power , the pressure on the insurance industry to lay off its Jewish employees increased and in 1935 he was forced to emigrate to Great Britain. He was expatriated on September 4, 1941. In 1946 he became a British citizen.

With a resolution of August 15, 1941 and an announcement in the circular of September 16, 1941, Herzfelder was depromised by the University of Würzburg . He was one of the more than 180 people from whom the University of Würzburg revoked their doctorate between 1933 and 1945. This was only reversed in 2011 by resolutions of the Senate and a public commemoration.
