Emil Chamber

Emil Kammer (born June 8, 1874 in Groß Kannapinnen ; † April 19, 1960 in Darmstadt ) was a German civil engineer and university professor .

Life

Johann Gustav Emil Kammer was born in 1874 as the son of the landowner Johannes Kammer and his wife Auguste Camplaiar in Groß Kannapinnen, East Prussia. He studied engineering from 1894 to 1898 at the technical universities in Berlin, Hanover and Munich. In Berlin he became a member of the Corps Guestphalia . From 1898 he worked as a practical structural engineer for railway construction. In December 1904 he earned the title of graduate engineer at the TH Darmstadt . Subsequently, two years has been in the construction department of the railway management in chamber Calw operates. From 1906 to 1908 he was an engineer with the city of Wroclaw . In 1908 Kammer became chief engineer at the TH Berlin . In 1913, Kammer received his doctorate with the thesis Statically Indeterminate Principal Systems. A contribution to the calculation of multiple undefined supporting structures . In 1919 he became a private lecturer in building construction at the TH Berlin. In July 1919 he was also awarded the title of professor. In 1921 he finally became an associate professor in Berlin.

In the same year he moved to the TH Darmstadt as a full professor of engineering. There he worked as a full professor until his retirement in 1939. Kammer's chair, which did not have its own laboratory, covered the areas of structural engineering, industrial construction in steel and movable bridges. Kammer supervised numerous study and diploma theses and completed orders for the industry. Chamber was also involved in academic administration. From 1924 to 1926 he was dean of the engineering department. In 1927/28 he held the office of rector. In 1934/35 he was dean of the civil engineering department. Kammer was neither a member of the NSDAP, nor did he join the SA or SS. He supported the NS-Altherrenbund, whereby money flowed to the National Socialist German Student Union.

In March 1939, Kammer retired. He died in Darmstadt in April 1960 at the age of 85.
