Emil Lux (born December 18, 1918 in Remscheid ; † December 18, 2005 ) was a German entrepreneur.

Life

According to National Socialist diction, Emil Lux was considered a “ half-Jew ”, but was still employed as a non-commissioned officer in Yugoslavia and the Soviet Union during the Second World War. He lost an arm in combat operations and retired from active military service. He was awarded the Iron Cross and the Wound Badge.

He joined the tool company Emil Lux GmbH & Co. KG founded by his father . After a stay in the USA in 1954, he brought the idea of ​​a DIY store with him. Together with Manfred Maus and Klaus Birker, Lux founded the OBI DIY and home improvement stores in 1970, which is now one of the largest DIY companies in Germany.

In 1974 he was the founder of "Grid International Germany", a subsidiary of a US company specializing in professional training and organizational development. Lux was a fan of knowledge transfer and further training.

He was particularly active in social engagement with the Marianne and Emil Lux Foundation .
