Manfred Maus (born April 26, 1935 in Gottmadingen ) is a German entrepreneur and co-founder of the Obi DIY chain .

Life

Manfred Maus did an apprenticeship in a hardware store, after which he studied business administration in Wuppertal . In 1958 he joined the Lux company of his future partner Emil Lux . Together with Emil Lux and Klaus Birker, Manfred Maus founded what is now the fourth largest DIY store operator in the world, Obi. Since then, the company has grown to over 500 stores (as of 2005).

Obi is the industry leader in Germany and is 98 percent known among the population. There are now branches not only in Germany, but also in Italy, Austria, Poland, Switzerland, Slovenia, the Czech Republic and Hungary there is the Obi hardware store, whose trademark is the beaver . A temporary business activity in the PRC has been terminated. Maus is chairman of SMT GmbH Maus Consulting & Services in Wermelskirchen.

Since 2013, Maus has been the new chairman of the Cologne diocesan group of the Federation of Catholic Entrepreneurs (BKU) and thus the largest regional group of the BKU. In this function, he also advocated closer cooperation with Protestant Christians, in particular with the Congress of Christian Leaders .

Manfred Maus is married and has three children.

Awards

He received the Golden Sugar Loaf in 1997 as a manager with vision and was named Eco-Manager of the Year in 1998 .

Manfred Maus received the Lifetime Award from the Main Association of German Retailers (HDE) for his life's work in October 2004 . He has been the recipient of the Federal Cross of Merit since May 28, 1999 and the Baden-Württemberg Medal of Merit since April 27, 2002 . Manfred Maus is also an honorary member of the plenary assembly of the Cologne Chamber of Commerce and Industry , honorary president of the German Franchise Association . Manfred Maus is also an honorary citizen of the city of Wermelskirchen and has been a member of the Board of Trustees of the Peter Ustinov Foundation since 2006 .
