Emil Müller (chemist)

Emil Müller (born March 10, 1844 in Thalfang , † December 10, 1910 in Berlin ; full name Daniel Emil Müller ) was a German chemist and explosives industrialist.

His father Gottlieb Daniel Müller (1811–1890) was a pastor in Thalfang and Radevormwald . The paternal grandfather was a businessman in Elberfeld .

Emil Müller studied chemistry and took over the management of the Rheinische Dynamitfabrik in Opladen (which was merged with two other competitors under the umbrella of the German Union in 1885 at the instigation of Dynamit AG ). He investigated the causes of the explosion accidents in the factory production of dynamite.

In 1874 he married Emma (* 1854; † after 1935), the daughter of the roof tile manufacturer Friedrich Wilhelm Siebel (1827–1877) from Küppersteg near Leverkusen. The couple had three sons, including Paul Müller (1876–1945), and a daughter. After his father-in-law's death, he resigned from his position in 1878 and continued to run his brick factory.

He became general director of the Rheinisch-Westfälische Sprengstoff-AG (RWS) founded in Cologne in 1886 with his assistance . In 1887 he and Gustav Aufschläger brought Wetterdynamit to production readiness.

In 1901 Müller became general director of the Vereinigte Köln-Rottweiler Pulverfabriken AG , the largest German explosives company. Since then he has also been a member of the general committee of the association for the protection of the interests of the chemical industry in Germany and was for many years a member of the board of the trade association for the chemical industry . Müller was a member of the unified Cologne Freemason Lodge Minerva for the patriotic association and Rhenana for humanity .
