Emil Weiten

Emil Weiten (born September 27, 1907 in Hilhaben ; † December 7, 1993 ) was a Saarland politician ( CVP / SVP ).

Weiten attended elementary school from 1913 to 1920 and then until 1924 the higher commercial school. In his parents' business he completed an apprenticeship as a brickworker until 1929, after which he opened his own pottery business. During the Second World War he fought on the Eastern Front from 1943 to 1945 . He was released from Soviet captivity at the end of 1945. After the war worked as a farmer .

At the beginning of 1946 Weiten joined the newly founded Christian People's Party of the Saarland (CVP). In the same year he was elected mayor of Hilhaben; he held the office until 1956. From 1947 to 1965 he was also a member of the Saarland state parliament . Weiten, who was a member of the Saarland Chamber of Agriculture, was a member of the Parliament's Committee on Food, Agriculture and Hunting and was particularly committed to the concerns of farmers. After the merger of the CVP and the CDU Saar, Weiten joined the Saarland People's Party (SVP).

In 1975 he was awarded the Saarland Order of Merit .
