Emma Poel

Emma Sophie Cäcilie Wilhelmine Poel (born January 31, 1811 in Altona ; † December 3, 1891 ) was a co-founder of the organized diakonia in Germany .

Live and act

Emma Poel was born on January 31, 1811 as the eleventh child of Piter Poel and his wife Friederike, nee. Büsch was born in Altona. On May 23, 1832 she was a founding member of the female association for poor and sick care in Altona . The later founding of the children's hospital in Altona goes back to him . In 1835 she founded a women's association . On November 12, 1866, he initiated the assembly to found a deaconess institution . This was constituted on December 28, 1867 as the Evangelical Lutheran Diakonissenanstalt for Schleswig-Holstein in Altona . Her current name is Ev.-Luth. Diakonissenanstalt Alten Eichen in Hamburg.

Emma Poel died unmarried in 1891.

There has been an Emma-Poel-Straße in Altona-Nord since 2016 .
