Emmanuel Sfiatkos

Emmanuel Sfiatkos (* 14. January 1977 in Duisburg as Ioannis Sfiatkos ) is a Greek Orthodox clergyman in Berlin and vicar bishop of the Greek Orthodox Metropolis of Germany . As bishop he has the title of Bishop Emmanuel of Christoupolis .

Life

Ioannis Sfiatkos studied Orthodox theology at the Ludwig Maximilians University in Munich, where he graduated with a diploma in 2001. After graduating, he worked as a teacher for Orthodox religious instruction at the European School in Munich and at the Klenze-Gymnasium in Munich.

On November 20, 2004 he was ordained deacon in the All Saints Church in Munich by Metropolitan Augoustinos of Germany, on August 15, 2005 he was appointed archdeacon. On November 26, 2005, Metropolitan Augoustinos consecrated him as a priest in the Metropolitan Church “Agia Trias” in Bonn- Limperich . Since December 25, 2005 he has been a pastor at the parish of the Ascension of Christ in Berlin-Steglitz, in 2008 he was appointed pastor there and acts as bishop vicar for Berlin, Brandenburg and Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania. The Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew I made him Archimandrite of the Ecumenical Patriarchate of Constantinople in 2008 .

Sfiatkos has been the representative of the Orthodox Bishops' Conference in Germany (OBKD) at the seat of the federal government since 2010 and chairman of the Berlin-Brandenburg Ecumenical Council since 2015.

On June 23, 2020, the Holy Synod of the Ecumenical Patriarchate elected him Vicar Bishop. On July 11, 2020, he was ordained bishop in the Church of the Ascension of Christ in Berlin-Steglitz.
