The Evangelical Lutheran Emmaus chapel , partly as Emmaus Chapel called in Rieste is from 1912 to early 1913 in Art Nouveau style built cemetery chapel , which is currently in use which Christ Church parish Hesepe-Sögeln-Rieste , a member congregation of the church district Bramsche in Evangelical Lutheran regional church of Hanover , is located. The chapel is named after the " Emmaus window", which shows the common meal of two disciples with the risen Jesus in Emmaus .

history

In 1912, planning began for a chapel to "strengthen" the Protestant Christians in the Rieste region. The foundation stone was laid in May of the same year after the population had made substantial donations. At the beginning of 1913, work on the building made of yellow quarry sandstone from Ueffeln was completed and the consecration followed on April 6, 1913 . One hundred years later, on April 6, 2013, the Christ Church parish Hesepe-Sögeln-Rieste celebrated the 100th anniversary of the chapel.

Furnishing

On the walls of the chapel, rediscovered Art Nouveau paintings during the restoration in 1995, which were painted over in the 1960s. The "Emmaus window", after which the chapel was named in 1983, is located at the rear of the choir and above the altar ; the table scene depicted bears the sentence: “Lord, stay with us, because evening will come” ( Lk 24:29  Lut ).

The cemetery chapel is located south of the exit from Rieste in the direction of Gut Varendorf on Sögelner Straße.
