Emmeline Deane ( 1858 in Bath , United Kingdom - 1944 ) was a British painter.

Life

Emmeline Deane was born in Bath , United Kingdom , the youngest of 13 children in an extended family that grew out of several writers and artists. Deane received an art education in Paris and exhibited several times at the Royal Academy of Arts London. She remained single and, due to financial resources, was able to travel a lot and devote herself intensively to painting. Deane was particularly valued for her portraiture; A famous painting is the portrait of her Polish colleague Anna Bilińska from 1884 , which is often compared with her self-portrait from 1887.
