Anna Bilińska-Bohdanowicz (* 1857 in Złotopol , today Nowomyrhorod , Ukraine ; † April 18, 1893 in Warsaw , Poland ) was a Polish painter and pupil of Wojciech Gerson .

She was born in the town of Zlotopol (Ukrainian Златопіль ), now a district of Novomyrhorod, in the family of a Polish doctor. Then she came to Wjatka (Russia, today Kirow ) where she learned drawing from the Polish graphic artist Michał Elwiro Andriolli . In 1875 she came to Warsaw . In 1877 she studied in the private drawing class with Wojciech Gerson . From 1882 she traveled to Munich , Salzburg , Vienna and Italy . Then she came to Paris , where she studied at the Académie Julian - a. a. together with Marie Bashkirtseff - and also taught. Her self-portrait from 1887 made her internationally known. She participated in exhibitions in Warsaw, Paris, London and Berlin. In 1892 she married the doctor Antoni Bohdanowicz and returned to Poland, where she succumbed to heart disease at the age of only 36. A famous portrait - alongside her self-portraits - is the painting Anna Bilinska by her British colleague Emmeline Deane ( Victoria Art Gallery ) from 1884 .

The picture was stolen during World War II and was considered lost. It reappeared in 2011 at an auction at Villa Grisebach .
