Emons Spedition GmbH , founded in 1928, is an international, family-run company in the transport and logistics sector with over 100 locations and 3,117 employees worldwide.

The Cologne-based forwarding company has locations in Germany, Denmark, Bulgaria, China, Georgia, Italy, Kazakhstan, Lithuania, Poland, Romania, Russia, Switzerland, the Czech Republic, USA, Taiwan, Turkey, Ukraine and the United Arab Emirates as in Belarus and maintains the transport and logistics networks in Germany, Europe and Eastern Europe.

In addition to the general cargo , groupage , partial and full loads as well as logistical services , the business fields of air and sea freight are part of the Emons family's service portfolio. Parcel, courier and express services are organized nationally and worldwide. The Emons Store Network has over 225,000 m² of logistics space in 26 locations in Germany. Container transports are carried out multimodally by rail and road by Emons-Rail-Cargo GmbH. In addition, Emons Air & Sea GmbH organizes the overseas transport of goods. Cargo International GmbH covers the area of ​​private customers.

Company history

The company was founded in 1928 with the purchase of the first truck. In 1948 the first freight forwarding facility was built in Cologne and in 1949 a branch was opened in Nuremberg for the first time. In 1952, Emons Spedition GmbH was founded. In 1953 branches were developed in Stuttgart, Munich and Freiburg. In 1955 Emons Transporte GmbH was founded. In 1958, 1960 and 1965 further branches were opened in Bayreuth, Villingen, Ratingen and Darmstadt. In 1969, Emons Impex Italiana SpA was founded in Milan, thus the international orientation of the company, as well as the introduction of combined transport .

In 1970, Emons-Impex-Speditions-GmbH was established with its headquarters in Cologne. 1981 opened a branch in Verona, Italy. In 1984 the foundation stone was laid for Emons Transporte AG in Lucerne, Switzerland. The Swiss company was then expanded to include branches in St. Margrethen in 1987 and Basel in 1993. The requirement for EDP networking of the branches via dedicated lines was also met in that year. In 1989, when Emons Impex GmbH, Hamburg, was founded, the company entered the sea port forwarding business. 1990 started the expansion of the forwarding company in the eastern federal states. Branches in Chemnitz, Dresden, Erfurt, Magdeburg, Neubrandenburg, Leipzig and Berlin were gradually put into operation. The year 1990 was also when Emons Logistik GmbH, based in Cologne, was founded. In 1992 the dial-up connection was established with the first customer. Two years later, the nationwide Emons network was expanded in Germany.

In 1995 and 1996, the Europe network and Poland traffic were set up and the Europe network was expanded to the east. In 1996, the procurement logistics concept was also expanded to include the whole of Germany. In 1997, the first outsourcing project was implemented in Chemnitz and logistics activities were started. In 1998 the entry into the parcel business followed, the development of the one-stop-shopping concept and the introduction of the “Roter Punkt®” brand, 24-hour service. 1999 saw the introduction of the “10 o'clock Express®” product.

In 2001, consignments were recorded for customers on the Internet and the new branch in Dresden was built. Between 2002 and 2003, the Emons East Eastern European services were installed with ports of call in Minsk, Kiev, Moscow, St. Petersburg and the Baltic States. In 2003 Emons launched the “12 o'clock Express®” product, as well as the first Emons subsidiary in Eastern Europe with Minsk in Belarus.

In 2004 the new Leipzig branch was completed. The products “8 o'clock Express®” and “Fixpunkt®” were introduced. The companies Emons Multitransport in Hamburg and St. Petersburg and Emons Ukraine GmbH in Kiev were also founded. In 2005, in addition to the new building in Cologne, the company expanded with branches in Moscow, Zgorzelec and Smolensk. At the same time, Emons Spedice was established in the Czech Republic and the "Emons Europa Express®" was introduced.

In 2006, for the first time in the company's history, acquisitions were made with Kochtransport GmbH in Villingen and ABX LOGISICS (Dtld.) GmbH in Karlsruhe. With the participation in SEI Spedition GmbH, air freight activities were intensified. In the same year, Emons Spedition was founded in Vilnius. With the expansion of the warehouse logistics area in 2007, the capacities were expanded to over 50,000 m². In the same year the company Emons Rail Cargo was founded. In the following year, the S. C. Emons forwarding company began operations in Romania. In 2009 the company grew through further investments in Bulgaria and Germany. In 2010, Emons forwarding branches were founded and taken over in Świdnica, Brno, Bremen and Schwerin. In 2011, the takeover of STG Logistik GmbH, Saarbrücken, followed. Also in 2011, Emons opened a border office in Frankfurt an der Oder. In 2012, the merger of two companies resulted in Emons Air & Sea GmbH. This was followed by the takeover of Mittelrhein Spedition Urmitz / Koblenz and the activation of the companies in Turkey and China.

The year 2013 was marked by the founding of the Emons companies in Poland, Kempten and Hradec Králové, Ostrava, Olomouc and Brest. In 2014 the company was founded in Kazakhstan, as well as the stake in Cargo International GmbH in Villingen. In 2015, Emons offices were established in Vilnius, Lithuania, and Georgia. A company participation in Denmark and in ProLok GmbH in Dresden was also signed.

In 2016, Lahmer Logistik GmbH in Saterland / Friesland and Spedition Biehle GmbH & Co. KG in Herbertshofen near Augsburg were taken over. This increased the number of own locations in the German general cargo network to 24. In 2017, the Czech network was expanded to include the Prague location and Emons-Container-Services GmbH was founded. This operates the container terminals in Dresden and Schkeuditz / Leipzig; since 2019 also Glauchau / Chemnitz.

As part of the "Go Global" strategy, the majority takeover of Global Fairways LLC with four locations in the USA (New York, Detroit, Chicago and Los Angeles) and Al Ras Freight LLC in the United Arab Emirates took place in 2018 and the Joint Ventures Founder & Emons Ltd. in Taipei / Taiwan. Also in 2020, the first branch in Slovakia was opened in Bratislava.
